Knox House a.k.a. Shorehouse and Tamarack

This house is a truly exceptional coastal Maine oceanfront property. It is situated on 100+ oceanfront acres in Martinsville, Maine. This classic Maine ocean front rental house is one of three houses on this private Maine oceanfront estate. This is the property where N.C. Wyeth and Andrew Wyeth painted many of their crashing waves and ocean front paintings, as well as at least one self portrait. The rocky shoreline is known as Cannibal Shore.

The house was built in 1750 on the General Henry Knox plantation in Thomaston, Maine. In the late 1950's, this house was moved to its current Maine oceanfront location, where it was restored and renovated. The large central chimney was rebuilt. The floors, doors, trim work, some windows, and plaster — as well as fire place mantels — are original.

Martinsville is between Tenants Harbor and Port Clyde, right on the open ocean, the heart of Maine's authentic lobster fishing villages.

The house is literally only 50 feet from the open ocean. We are between the islands of the Muscle Ridge, which are just off Spruce Head and Owls Head. A little further east is Penobscot Bay. To the south is Port Clyde, the mouth of the St. George River, Monhegan Island, Muscongus Bay, Cushing and Friendship. Tenants Harbor is 3 miles east of the house and Port Clyde is 3.5 miles south of the house.

Literally just off the lawn you will see Lobster fishing boats, tugs, schooners, yawls, and yachts of every variety and description. You can enjoy seeing abundant wildlife, eagles, osprey, seabirds, and songbirds as they move around throughout this property. At times we've spotted moose walking around the door yards, and in the early spring the wild turkeys are wandering around, and we often see fox and rabbits, and hear owls and loons, and more.

This spacious 2-story Maine ocean front rental house has 4 bedrooms: 1 with a king, 2 with double beds, and 1 bedroom with two twin beds. There are 2 full bathrooms, 4 fireplaces, living room, 2 sitting rooms, dining room and kitchen. The house has a dishwasher, microwave, TV/VCR and DSL, washer/dryer, and a grill.

This Maine ocean front rental house is comfortably furnished with down sofas, antiques, good reading lights, and 100% cotton linens. There are ocean views from the bathtub, dining room, living room, kitchen and master bedroom. There is an outdoor shower with ocean view, a hammock, croquet, as well as an oceanfront Martinsville Screen House, designed by Cindy Lang.
