Shorehouse, aka Tamarack, and the Knox House

This is a restored 200-year-old Cape. It was originally on Thomaston Harbor, along the St. George River, part of General Henry Knox's plantation. It was moved to this incredible ocean front location in 1960. It was restored, and has been meticulously maintained and improved.

This house is right on the open ocean, facing south and east. You can hear the ocean as the tide pulls it in and out. This is a totally different experience than living on a cove, inlet or harbor! Metinic, Two Bush, and Vinalhaven are to the east, the tip of Mosquito Island to the south, with Monhegan beyond. You can see what seems to be forever. This area of open ocean is between Muscongus Bay and Penobscot Bay. This house is contiguous with an open hay field, protected by a conservation easement held by the Coastal Mountains Land Trust.

The sea birds, migratory birds, the wildlife and the ocean life are incredible at this very unique location. This is a place that is truly one of a kind.

There are walking paths through the open fields, the woods and the bog, with only two other houses, and a rustic cabin on this 100+ acres.

The rocky shore of this oceanfront, just fifty feet from the door, is very easy to access. The big flat rocks are easy to navigate, perfect for picnics, exploring tidal pools, walks and finding a napping nook.

The house is comfortably furnished with down sofas, antiques, good reading lights, wonderful natural light and 100% cotton linens. The house has a living room, dining room, two sitting rooms, a full kitchen, two bathrooms (one shower, one tub), and four bedrooms (one twin beds, two double beds, and one king).

There is an ocean view from the bathtub, dining room, living room, kitchen and master bedroom.

There are four working fireplaces and an oil fired hot air furnace. There is barbecue grill and badminton and croquet sets are available. There is an outdoor shower with an ocean view, and an oceanfront screen house, that has a chaise for naps, and tables and chairs for reading and dining.

The house has satellite television, CD, VCR, radio, long distance telephone is included, DSL cable for internet access. The house is located in Martinsville, between Tenants Harbor and Port Clyde.
